A poem for a lost love.

Never will I understand the motion of us all
The way we walk, breathe, and talk no matter short or tall

For each emotion that we hold our thoughts cannot match
How we feel about true love or when the bird eggs hatch

But when I stop for the world on one black sorrowful day
The sun is out and people sing the words they have to say

Children laugh and run the streets as they can’t see my pain
Has the one I have loved and lost lived and died in vain?

The mothers hum a song of life while cleaning clear windows
As I can’t speak, hear, or feel the softest wind that blows

I dress in black and walk a path like many have before me
My heart is strain to match my thoughts but not a soul can see

The sunniest morning I’ve seen in May welcomes me today
And could not rain the blackest skies no matter what I say

This was written in June of 2011 for Gloria Nardon Allegrucci by me, her granddaughter, Amber Maria Allegrucci.
It is for anyone and everyone healing from any sort of loss or departure of a loved one.

Just a few years later I decided to do a follow up for her to tell her that I was doing pretty okay. ♥

I thought of you today and smiled
At the image of such a small child
Running down the parlor floors
And roasting yummy melted s’mores

Then I grew and grew and grew
And before you noticed, Wow who knew!
I started to look just like you
A laugh that belonged to just us two

And although you’re not here with me today
And can’t hear the words that I have to say
You should know that I will never forget
Spending time with you while watching the sunset.

Please feel free to share.
With lots of love, Amber.
In loving memory GA. My gram gram :]

How to know if you think like an Old Forge high schooler.

Note to self: Stay away from middle stall in upstairs girls bathroom.
Shout out to all of the girls with a crooked nose.

"I have to go to the bathroom."
Okay give me your pass, take this foam slip, sign this book, sign the hall monitors book. Do you have your license and registration? And are you sexually active? A legal citizen of the US, right? Okay now do the hokey pokey and turn yourself around. Smack that, all on the floor, smack that, give me some more. Knick Knack Paddy Whack give a dog a bone.... annnd you're good to go.

Getting up to sharpen a pencil in the middle of class and everyone stares at you.
Girls *thinking to self* "Don't look at my butt. Don't look at my butt. Don't look at my butt."
Boys *Out loud* "DATTT ASSSSS." *Jock high fives

School uniforms.
2009 - Khakis and a blue shirt.
2014 - Solid undershirt, certain shirt and pants color, no backless shoes, no yoga's (on the only dress down days we have!), bllllah blllahhh blaaaahhhhhhh.

Virtually no dating.
We've grown up together since kindergarten. Between then and now We've been around the block with enough people to know that Old Forgers don't mesh well with other Old Forger's.

Come to school wearing red and being bugged about it all day.
RIVERSIDE COLORS! *GASPPPPP
I like River Side, shhh don't tell.

Hall monitor outside of the bathroom?!
Can he hear me peeing? Now I can't go. Does he think I'm taking too long? Now I really can't go!

We have a trout club?
And I signed up for it? Oh.

The guys finally shave their facial hair.
Soooo where is the high school library exactly?
*shrugs

"NO HOODIES OR JACKETS IN SCHOOL!"
So why does it feel like I'm taking my midterm in the middle of the arctic butt ass naked?
*penguin waddles by.

Peeking at your schedule the first week of school and praying to every god you can think of that you don't get a certain math teacher.
Contestant: Big bucks, big bucks, no wammy no wammy!
*screen shows teacher.
Contestant: I have her first and second period!!?
Announcer: DOUBLE WAMMY!

The smaller the girl the bigger the car.

New kid? AND HE'S NOT WHITE!?
Can I touch you?

I didn't know it was socially acceptable to date girls who can't legally sit in the front seat of an SUV.
But she likes Justin Bieber so it's okay. Her standards don't seem to be too high. Ohh, I went there.

Why isn't my locker opening?
This isn't my locker is it...

Late lunch period so you're always hungry. Your stomach starts communicating with you during class.
Oh god, please don't look at me.

That dialect though...
Old Forger : "Hey, you gunna eat your hoagie? I'll trade you it for a whimpey."
Non Old Forger : "I don't know what either of those things are but okay."

Excuse me while I check my hair in the trophy case.

Principal: "And I don't want to see your phone hanging out of your pocket!"
*Shoves Iphone in bra.
*Left boob vibrates.
Friend "What's up with your-,"
Me "Shhh. Just let it be."

Thinking of the funniest senior prank.
Other senior " What's the prank this year?"
Me: Please don't say the bowling ball. Please don't say the bowling ball.
Other senior 2 " Probably the bowling ball."
Me "....."

Don't worry about figuring out how to pay taxes or find a job! You have to learn the Pythagorean Theory!

"I'm graduating and never coming back!"
Calls mom during first week of college and cries like crazy while eating 40 pounds of chocolate ice cream.

Why does the ISS room not have windows?

Or is this a high security Russian prison?

No printer paper. No ink. Laptops take 20 minutes to boot up.
"Why isn't your assignment in on time!??!?"

Get your filthy feet off of the back of my chair, you're getting boot prints on my jeans.
*mumbles.* Free loader...

Wait... I have to use a certain door to leave? There are ten doors right there!!!

Nearly falling down the stairs while looking out the glass window on the steps.

WHO TOOK MY PARKING SPOT AGAIN!?!?!?
FFFUuuuuUUUUUUUU AHHHHH!!

Getting 1 detention
-No 10 points on midterm
-No skipping midterm
-No free dress down
-No 10 points on final
-No skipping final
-Do not pass Go
-Do not collect $200

*Walks into seventh grade class.
WOW. Why does it smell so bad in here?

I'm going to go to the elementary and visit all of my old teachers!!
....wait who are you people? Where did all of my teachers go?

You know the story about the ghost who lives under the stage in the auditorium because Mr. Sylvester will never teach a new class without telling the story.

Forgetting your protractor for class and getting detention. Then liking detention more than class.

All the Italians think they can speak Italian fluently.

Teachers call you by your last name more than your first.

You can smell gossip a mile away.

The graffiti in the girls locker room makes fun of a girl who hasn't gone to our school in three... maybe four years.

When the teacher open their mailbox in the wall you can see them through the holes in the office.
*waves awkwardly.

You can see the cheerleaders cringe at every wrinkle the posters have on the walls.
Don't mess around with them guys! They work hard on those.

Oh don't mind me I'm just going to get some hand sanitizer from this wall dispenser here...
Dispenser falls apart, smacks you in the face, get's sanitizer all over you.
"Yup, germ free."

Teacher : "Oh you're a fast reader? Guess who can read the entire book out loud!"
You!

If you agree with any of these send them out and have a laugh!

Penis Pancakes: Amber's autobiographical tale of love and loss.

Amber can't find food.
Amber makes eggs.
Amber is still hungry.
Amber makes pancakes in the shape of penis.
Amber regrets this decision when the fire alarm goes off.
Dad is not happy that Amber has burnt the phallic pancakes while he tries to sleep.
Amber laughs.
Dad doesn't.
Amber looks in the fridge for something to drink.
Amber can't find anything to drink.
MILK!
Amber drinks the milk.
Amber remembers she has a lactose intolerance.
Amber cries while she internally dies.

Switch girl

Are you leaning on my desk with no make-up, pajamas still on from last night, glasses, and your hair pulled up into the tightest bun? Yes?
And do you normally make sure you look only the best when out in public? Matching clothes with not one stain, buttons that need to be buttoned are buttoned, shoes equipped for only the nicest weather conditions, and hair that can only be topped by A list celebrities? Yes?

You're a switch girl.

As a switch girl (minus a few of the second part of that question above) I salute you and your switch-girly self.

Miscommunications in a small town.

Do you know how hard it is to communicate with people in this town!?
There are soooo many different types of people in Old Forge that you'd have to stay your entire life to figure out about each of the characters that wander this place. I wouldn't suggest that either since most of them are all insane! Well hey, some people enjoy that.

I have lived in Old Forge for my entire life and I have yet to find someone who is even close to being like me other than my group of friends and even within that we are all crazy. I sometimes like to think we are the misfits who were thrown out of the other groups or denied the chance in so we came together and formed a giant group of nut-crackers.

Just try that though. Imagine it in your mind. Trying to speak to someone who looks at you like you have four heads. I feel like the only way to communicate with people is by yelling, chewing gum loudly, and flipping my hair every two seconds, or by keeping my moth shut all together. I am not a quiet person either! Ask anyone who is around me. Turn some music on and your house will be trashed and a lamp shade will be missing in a matter of seconds.

Plus being a senior doesn't help.
For years I had waiting for this year to come and our class could come together and be family. I wanted to laugh with everyone and get to know everyone personally but it seems like senior year brought out many different people who had been wearing some sort of I'm-a-nice-person mask and finally the mask came off and SURPRISE! A wild @$$-hat appears.

Here, take this example.
I would never say that I was BULLIED throughout elementary and high school because if someone would pick on me I wouldn't just stand there and let it happen. If I feel like someone is being a jerk you can bet your sweet tush I'll be the first person standing up with my fists clenched. There was never a time where I sat and let someone belittle me and I guess you can say that had made the entire situation worse. They would see me yell back and they would laugh. Funny...

I would sit in my room and day dream about a time when I would walk across the stage and read a book-long poem about the people who locked in a bathroom stall and beat my legs with sticks from recess. Funny.

Even this year. Something happening in class bothered me and went on for ten minutes. I say stop and everyone laughs. Funny. It's funny.
I'm a funny person. I like laughing. Did I miss the joke? Really, tell me why it's funny! You're going to legally be an adult in a few months and you still find throwing stuff at people funny? College is going to lay you out and whip you like a horse if you go in Freshman year with the idea that people will laugh with you then. So go ahead and get together and do your bickering now and I'll get my saddle ready.

---woah, was I holding that in?

I've done my time of trying to fit it.

I've tried the duck faces.... that didn't work.

I've tried the bathroom mirror pics.... not there yet.

And I even tried to fit in with "normal" people but somehow got this and loved it all the same.

So,  I guess through all of the years I've had trouble with the miscommunications I found some people to miscommunicate with and I'm okay with that.

Old Forge teachers to strike. yay......

In all honesty I don't care if the teachers strike. I don't care if they demand more money or if the school pushes back the contract another three years and the process goes on. Why? Because it's not working! We've been going on strike since I've been in elementary school and it hasn't worked then so why would it work now? C'mon teachers, you're in a town where most of the "bosses" are old cranky Italian people! Do you really think you can budge them?

You can't. I once didn't finish a bowl of my Italian grandma's homemade soup and the only thing I got out of that was a dusty slipper to the face. God I miss her.

But it's messing with me and my plans this year. I was never a person to plan things, I get lost in my own backyard, and I once went through an entire afternoon with my shoes on the opposite foot but I'm not stupid! Okay maybe a little.

This year a group of my friends and I had planned to spend our senior week in a cabin in the mountains instead of blowing our money in Jersey. Everything was finally starting to fall together, we nearly had the number of people going, we knew who was driving, and everything was (in the long run) coming together! Now if this strike pushes the graduation date back who do I have to throw a slipper at?

It might not seem so stupid to all of the seventh graders coming in and the younger students but to me it's no longer a vacation. I have things that need to get done. I want to send out college applications and I'm dying to see my friends again.

If someone can't help these teachers out by signing a contract to ensure they get what they think they deserve at least fix the air conditioning and knock it off with all of the dress code changes. I get what you're trying to do.... you're trying to prevent bullying and make our school look more presentable but it's getting out of hand. I'm glad I'm getting out of OF this year because next year who knows if they'll have a new dress code rule for what panties you could wear.

A little nudge:

In South Korea teachers who work for an organization teaching English have to work all year round. While they might get paid a little more than teachers in the United States they are permitted to live in a closed in apartment (unless gathering enough money to move out) and have to desk warm for weeks upon weeks during the summer.
